As the full horror of the catastrophic flooding began to emerge, Rex has said it was setting aside $1 million worth of freight and passenger transport to help flood victims as part of the Rex Disaster Relief Fund.

Rex has announced it will support emergency assistance efforts in the flood-ravaged areas of Queensland and NSW with its Rex Disaster Relief Fund.

This fund was set up to help communities beset by natural calamities like drought, fires, and floods in regional and rural Australia.

Community groups working to alleviate the impact of the floods will be able to apply to get free passenger and freight transportation on the Rex network.

Small businesses and private individuals that are mounting initiatives to bring relief to flood victims can also apply.

Rex operates flights to several of the hardest-hit centres in northern NSW including, Ballina (Byron Bay), Lismore, and Port Macquarie as well as the Gold Coast.

“We have all seen the pictures of the destruction caused by the floods and the human misery being endured by so many who’ve had their homes, businesses and livelihoods literally washed away,” Rex Deputy Chairman, the Hon John Sharp AM, said.

“Rex’s tagline is ‘Our Heart is in the Country’ and we have always responded when natural disasters hit regional/rural communities on our network just as we did for flood-ravaged Port Macquarie 12 months ago, and during bushfires and droughts in years past.

“We are partners with the communities we serve and we will always stand by them in the good times – and the bad – and do whatever we can to help them and support the recovery efforts which will obviously take many, many months,” Mr Sharp said.

Applications can be made via email to sponsorships@rex.com.au or via the Rex website.
