Tigerair helped Melbourne Airport open the doors to its new-look Terminal 4, by being the first airline to depart from the renovated space early this morning.
Located south of Terminal 3, it is now home to Jetstar, Tigerair and Regional Express operations and is capable of handling around 10 million passengers per year.
Equipped with all the latest airport technology, Terminal 4 has self-service check-in kiosk and automated bag drop facilities as well as access to more than 30 retailers providing a range of shopping and dining experiences.
Tigerair Australia CEO Rob Sharp said the airline’s ‘new home’ in Melbourne marked a significant milestone as the budget airline continues its transformation.
“The new terminal is symbolic of the new Tigerair reflecting a step change from the old terminal with which our customers are familiar.”

Here’s the total run-down on what clients can expect when passing through Terminal 4:
Latest tech
It is the first terminal in the Asia Pacific region to feature fully automated self-service check in facilities.
Tigerair check-in staff will also be completely mobile, using latest innovation, the Max Airport iPad to assist passengers on the spot to check-in, print out boarding passes, change flight details or help them use the self-serve check in kiosks and automated bag drop facilities at Terminal 4.
Exciting line up of retailers
T4 features a range of retailers and food and beverage options including Ali Baba, Boost Juice, Oporto, Chop Salads, Krispy Kreme and McDonald’s.
There’s also Rip Curl, Victoria’s Secret, Witchery, Country Road and more.
Departure lounge
The Terminal 4 departure lounge has been designed as an area for passengers to sit, eat, drink and shop while waiting for their flight.
With 1,200 seats and floor-to-ceiling windows, the departure lounge serves as a relaxing area to enjoy views of the airfield.
There’s also large electronic display screens that provide passengers with flight information including a countdown to board their flight.
