Emirates has announced that they will suspend direct flights between Brisbane and Singapore and vice versa from 31 March 2020.
Emirates has today announced that effective 31 March 2020 they will suspend flight EK432 and EK433 which currently operate between Singapore (SIN) and Brisbane (BNE) on Boeing 777 aircraft.
The Dubai based airline says that codeshare partner Qantas Airways will continue to operate flights on the same route as EK5051 and EK5052.
In a statement, the airline said that “After seeking appropriate regulatory approvals, we welcome the decision of the Competition & Consumer Commission of Singapore (CCCS) to accept our request to suspend the flights, based on a recent review of our operations which was undertaken to ensure the optimal commercial utilisation of our aircraft fleet. Affected passengers who booked directly with Emirates will be notified and advised on re-booking options.”
Emirates also said that passengers who booked directly through Qantas will be notified by Qantas.
Agents get ready: Emirates have told passengers who booked flights through a ‘travel company’ that they should contact the agent where the original booking was made for assistance.
In a move that will likely be seen as Emirates cutting back their footprint in Australia due to reduced demand, the airline officially said;
“Both Australia and Singapore are important business and leisure destinations for Emirates and we remain committed to serving our customers in Brisbane with two daily flights to Dubai, where passengers can connect onward to North America, Europe, South America, the Middle East and Africa,”
“Australians can also connect to our global route network with daily flights from Sydney, Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide and onwards to the Middle East and Europe. Furthermore, passengers from Melbourne can fly directly to Singapore with three daily flights operated by Emirates and our codeshare partner Qantas Airways.”
The move is expected to reduce seats on the route by 16 per cent per week.
