Less than two weeks after Qantas completed major renovations at LAX Airport, United has revealed plans for a $573 million refresh to its customer-facing spaces at the gateway.

The money, which is being invested by United Airlines, promises to deliver a ‘superior experience’ for the airline’s customers at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

With a price tag of more than half a billion dollars, United’s LAX redevelopment project will refresh virtually all of its customer-facing space at the airport, to offer more convenience and premium amenities.

During the announcement, the airline also unveiled several design renderings depicting some of the changes that will greet customers between now and December 2017, when United expects to complete its renovations.

Senior Vice President for Customers, Sandra Pineau-Boddison said changes will see the installment of a new -state-of-the-art ticketing lobby, a spacious United Club lounge as well as more comfortable and inviting public spaces.

So what’s changing?

New customer screening space at LAX.

The latest self-service tools such as self-tagging baggage kiosks will be introduced in the check-in area – these intuitive technologies, along with an improved security screening checkpoint, will enable travelers to move quickly and efficiently from curb to gate.

United’s new-look terminals and gate areas will feature a modern design with relaxed and inviting spaces, including a variety of comfortable seating options and abundant charging stations for customers’ electronic devices.

Check-in space will have all the latest baggage technology.

United Club members will also enjoy the airline’s new, expanded Terminal 7 lounge where they can work or relax in style while taking in spectacular views of the airfield from the club’s outdoor terrace.

Located atop the terminal, the exclusive terrace offers United Club members additional respite from the hustle and bustle of their travel day.
