The Solomon Islands’ national carrier, Solomon Airlines celebrates 60 years in the air in October 2022 with official celebrations and a 60th Anniversary logo with the tagline, ‘Connecting the Hapi Isles’, honouring the South Pacific nation’s global reputation.
The celebrations kick off with an Aviation Week Fair at Solomon Airlines Head Office grounds on 26 and 27 October, followed by the airline’s sponsorship of the Solomon Airlines 60th Anniversary Peace Marathon on 29 October and a 60th Anniversary cocktail event for VIP government and commercial representatives, corporate sponsors and aviation and tourism partners.
The new logo was unveiled by some of the airline’s longest-serving staff, including Florence Padabela (35 years), Timothy Neuwa (26 years), John Berry Anga (27 years), Clement Ramoa (33 years) and Margaret Vatia (34 years).
Solomon Airlines was established in 1962 when aviator Laurie Crowley founded a small charter airline in the Solomon Islands called Megapode Airways. The airline is now wholly owned by the Solomon Islands Government.
Solomon Airlines CEO Gus Kraus said the milestone year was especially significant after the most difficult period in the airline’s history.
“Solomon Airlines has survived many challenges in the past, but none so difficult as the past two years and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic,” he said.
“As we celebrate 60 years of resilience, we also turn a page. Solomon Airlines will stay true to our mission – providing safe and reliable air services connecting our provinces, and focusing on the strategic role of the national carrier in the economic development of our country.”
