Solomon Airlines suspends all services

Solomon Airlines’ says services will be up and running again tomorrow, two days after grounding all flights.

The carrier’s CEO, Captain Sumsum, said all services were suspended yesterday due to a dispute with the Solomon Islands’ Government.

Captain Sumsum said suspending services did not come lightly and expects it will affect passengers booked on the airline’s eight weekly services between Brisbane and Honiara, flights to and from Nadi, Fiji and Port Vila, Vanuatu, and all domestic services within the Solomon Islands.

However, from tomorrow the carrier will resume full operation of all international and domestic services. One international flight will take off today today from Honiara to Brisbane.

Captain Sumsum said Solomon Airlines unreservedly apologised for any inconvenience the situation had caused the airline’s passengers, its codeshare partners and other international carriers and their passengers.

News sources have alleged that the dispute with the government was over “unpaid arrears”, which are believed to have compromised operations with pilots flying “an unacceptably large number of flights”, ABC News reported.
