Now that AirAsia X has pretty much conquered Australia with flights to most of the main cities, the carrier is looking to takeover New Zealand.

AirAsia X confirmed it will launch daily flights from Kuala Lumpur-Gold Coast-Auckland on 22 March this year to connect Kiwis to the airline’s wide network.

Bookings for the new route go on sale on 13 January, with a special AU$119 one-way to Auckland fare for the travel period from 22 March 2016 to 5 February 2017.

Flights will depart the Gold Coast at 9.05am every day for Auckland, arriving at 3.30pm local time. The aircraft will then turn around and fly back to the Gold Coast before carrying onwards to Kuala Lumpur.

AirAsia X will utilise its A330-300 aircraft on the route with a capacity of 377 passengers – 365 economy and 12 premium flatbed seats.

The carrier’s premium seats are built with a 20” width, 60” pitch. They come with universal power sockets, adjustable headrests and built-in personal utilities such as a tray table, drink holder, reading light and privacy screen.

Passengers flying with a premium ticket will also enjoy complimentary products and services including a priority check-in, priority boarding and baggage, extra baggage allowance, combo meals and premium pillow and duvet.

In economy, the carrier offers a Quiet Zone which is reserved for guests aged 12 and over who want guaranteed silence during their flight.

AirAsia X’s Commercial Manager Australia and NZ, Russell Hole, said the Gold Coast is “perfectly situated” to offer convenient travel from Asia to the other side of the Tasman.

“Two flight arrivals each day reinforces the Gold Coast’s importance to our network and continues to open up travel opportunities in this region.”

This a second major coup for Gold Coast Airport this week, with the gateway welcoming Australia’s inaugural services from Hong Kong Airlines. Click here for more information.
