Thousands of frustrated travellers flying with Southwest yesterday should get to their destination today after a technical glitch caused delays to hundreds of flights.
Some 836 services were delayed yesterday when an issue crippled the budget airline’s mobile app, website and reservation centers.
Staff were forced to manually issue tickets, which slowed down the entire boarding process.
According to the carrier, while 836 flights were affected, another 75 percent still performed on-time.
In an online statement released today, Southwest said the unidentified issue has been resolved and flights are expected to operate as normal throughout the day.
“Teams worked throughout the night in advance of our first departures to ensure the smoothest operation of our originating and later flights.”

“We have some additional work to do to get bags delivered and some delayed or displaced Customers into open seats today. We have teams working as quickly as possible to accomplish that.”
As well as ensuring services operate to their timetable today, the airline is also working to ensure bags are delivered and displaced customers are fitted into open seats.
“We have teams working as quickly as possible to accomplish that.”

Although Southwest is yet to reveal the root of the problem, the carrier has ruled out a hack.
