That moment when Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs was almost hit by a Qantas plane

Uhhh, is she going to move? She realises there's a plane directly behind her right? Who positioned her there? But seriously, is she going to move?

Uhhh, is she going to move? She realises there’s a plane directly behind her right? Who positioned her there? But seriously, is she going to move?

They’re the questions the will likely run through your mind while watching Julie Bishop’s recent Sky News interview, during which she’s almost hit by the wing of a Qantas plane.

In the three-minute clip posted to Twitter, Australia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs is giving the station a live interview from one of the country’s gateways, when a Qantas aircraft appears in the shot and moves towards the camera.

Around thirty seconds into the clip, Bishop’s voice is almost completely drowned out by the overbearing sound of the aircraft engine… but what she’s saying really doesn’t matter because as a viewer you can’t take your eyes off the plane’s wing, which is now in line with her head and moving closer.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs didn’t flinch once or lose her train of thought during the entire interview, not even when one of the turbines is centimeters from her head.

It’s honestly a little stressful to watch but it’ll give you newfound respect for Bishop.

Equally as impressive as Bishop’s strength and determination in this particular situation, is the interviewer, who remained calm while watching the entire thing unfold.
