In the battle of the sexes men may (allegedly) be stronger than women (in some cases), but when it comes to travelling, women are financially smarter.
According to a new analysis by Carlson Wagonlit Travel’s (CWT), women tend to book their flights earlier than men and in turn are saving a fair bit of cash.

The study found females are booking roughly 1.9 days earlier than their male counterparts. This couple of days difference proves timing really is everything, because their early attitude is saving them some two percent on air tickets.
It doesn’t sound like much but it could see women saving some $33 on a $1,643 flight to Santiago from Sydney or around $22 on a $1,099 ticket to San Francisco.
For companies with 1,000 business travellers, the difference – and therefore the potential saving – is just under $50,000 a year. That rises to $1 million for a traveller base of 20,000.
In travel every penny really does add up.
Other findings include the fact that people tend to book flights further in advance the older they are. Additionally, as people’s flying frequency increases, they typically book flights closer to their departure date. Interestingly, the gender gap almost disappears among the most frequent travellers.
