Tigerair unveils new stripes

Virgin Australia's budget carrier, Tigerair Australia, has ripped off its old stripes and stepped into new ones as part of a series of carrier upgrades.

Virgin Australia’s budget carrier, Tigerair Australia, has ripped off its old stripes and stepped into new ones as part of a series of carrier upgrades.

Revealed this morning at Melbourne’s Tullamarine Airport, the change will see the low-cost carrier’s female cabin crew replace the white shirts and black pants with a white and grey-sleeved shirt featuring the airline’s iconic orange around the neckline.

The top will be accompanied with a black skirt or black pants and a pair of black shoes.

Also new to the airline is a ‘customer friendly’ website, which Chief Executive Rob Sharp believes will make the search and booking experience more simple for guests.

A new SMS notification system will increase the airline’s customer communications by sending push updates on flights and products straight to the flyer’s phone.

A new app is also in the works and the carrier is planning to welcome its 14th A320 in December this year. The plane will be based out of Sydney to compete with Qantas’ budget airline, Jetstar.

Sharp changes were an introduction to the carrier’s ‘next chapter’ and would make it more appealing to the travelling public.

“We said two years ago that we were going to change Tiger and now we have.”

“Customers have told us that they want to keep affordable fares, they want flights on time, and they wanted some customer service, and we’re now delivering on all that.

“We’ve been working on this since 2013 and we now have a changed business.”

The upgrades come after several operational changes in recent months including new domestic services, its first international flight and increased attention to departure times.
