A new series of entertaining informational videos released by United Airlines aims to explain the often complex airline industry to the uninitiated, with doses of humour thrown in for good measure.

Hosted by the sassy Fox Sports presenter Katie Nolan and assisted by the Chicago improv performer Rob Anderson, the short video series – currently at two episodes – is entitled #BigMetalBird and is clearly aimed at a millennial audience rather than an older crowd.

According to United’s marketing and product development managing director, Mark Krolick – credited with coming up with the idea for the series, the videos deliver important travel information that’s easy to consume, easy to understand and easy to share, which is how United customers like it.

Take a look at episode #1 here which will shed some light on United’s baggage operations. (Check out the bit where a top United executive packs himself in his own bag. Hilarious!)

United isn’t the first airline to inject a little humour into their videos, with airline of the year Air New Zealand’s inflight safety videos having acquired legendary status in the industry.

The new video series suggests that United is getting ready for a refreshing 2016, with the airline celebrating 30 years of flying to Australia and replacing their fleet with shiny new Dreamliners – fitted with the latest entertainment systems, Wi-Fi, extra large windows, large overhead bins, versatile LED lighting, lower cabin altitude and better air humidity.

They’re also now serving better coffee on board. Yay!
