An Aussie airline first: Velocity Frequent Flyer reveals new perks for Virgin Australia’s upcoming Qatar flights

Velocity Frequent Flyer is adding some sweet new benefits for members flying long haul on Virgin Australia’s upcoming international flights to Doha.

Velocity Frequent Flyer is adding some sweet new benefits for members flying long haul on Virgin Australia’s upcoming international flights to Doha.

With the first services departing from June 2025 (Melbourne follows in December), the loyalty program is offering US$20 ‘Dine on Us’ vouchers for all Velocity members, including kids, to use at select eateries at Doha’s Hamad International Airport – crowned World’s Best Airport in 2024.

All travellers need to do is add their Velocity Frequent Flyer number to their booking before check-in, for what Virgin claims is an Australian airline first.

From 1 July 2025, Velocity members can also use their points to upgrade to Qatar Airways’ swanky Qsuite Business Class from Economy Flex fares. Gold and Platinum members get even more flexibility, upgrading from both Flex and Choice fares.

Frequent flyers with Gold and Platinum status will also enjoy complimentary advance seat selection for themselves and up to eight travel guests, including extra legroom spots. Elsewhere, Red and Silver members can get in on the action with discounted seat selection.

And for families pooling points and status credits, rewards can now come faster. For instance, a return Economy Flex trip to Paris via Doha could earn a family of four 86,000+ Points and 1,120+ Status Credits.

Meanwhile, Gold and Platinum Velocity Frequent Flyers will also enjoy fast-tracked check-in, boarding and baggage, extra luggage allowance and lounge access in Doha.

Velocity Frequent Flyer CEO Nick Rohrlach says the new perks are all about making travel smoother and more rewarding.

“We know our members value great rewards when they fly and our expanded benefits on these new services to Doha deliver exactly that – more upgrade options, more perks, and a better travel experience,” he states.

“From complimentary in-flight Wifi to Business class upgrades with Points and a $20USD dining voucher, we’re delivering on our promise to offer members value to recognise their loyalty and choosing to fly with us.

“As a loyalty program, we continuously seek new ways to reward members for their dedication and commitment. The exceptional loyalty benefits on Virgin Australia’s new long-haul international services highlight our strong focus on delivering meaningful and personalised rewards.”
