Vietjet Air is set to make history with its first-ever service to New Zealand, commencing flights between Ho Chi Minh City and Auckland in September 2025.
Assuming it’s a nonstop service, the new flights will be the only direct link between New Zealand and Vietnam. But the airline told Karryon that the “flight’s exact routing is still being finalised and will be shared closer to the commencement of the route”.
Using its A330 aircraft, Vietjet will operate four return flights per week, offering travellers a range of seat classes, including Business, SkyBoss, Deluxe and Eco.

The carrier says the new service will provide a cost-effective link between Auckland and Vietnam’s dynamic commercial hub, Ho Chi Minh City, known for its rich history, bustling nightlife and easy access to iconic destinations like Ha Long Bay and the Mekong Delta.
Announced at a high-profile event in Hanoi attended by New Zealand’s Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Vietnam’s Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, the new route aims to strengthen economic, tourism and cultural ties between the two nations.

The connection also marks a significant expansion for Vietjet in the Australia-New Zealand region, following its entry into Australia in 2023.
The airline currently operates six routes between Vietnam and Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth.
With the launch, Vietjet aims to boost trade, tourism, education and investment while enhancing connectivity across Southeast Asia.

“I’m very pleased with Vietjet’s announcement that they will develop a new route to New Zealand, strengthening the connectivity and the people-to-people links between our two countries which is a critical enabler of more growth and brings our people closer together,” New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon said at the event in Hanoi.
“This enables lots of opportunities across the board, not just in tourism but also in trade and also in education.”
Earlier this month, AirlineRatings.com honoured Vietjet with the award for best Ultra Low Cost Carrier for 2025.
