Virgin Atlantic is placing increased focus on Economy Class by introducing fun new entertainment and comfort technology in its Dreamliner cabins.
The announcement comes after unveiling its new-look Economy cabins inside its newest Dreamliner 787-9 aircraft.
New to the cabin is the #skyhighselfie concept – an application that allows flyers to check-in for free on Facebook and post a selfie in front of Virgin Atlantic’s posters.
Chocoholics on board will love the introduction of after-dinner chocolates and the retro-style usherette ice-cream service, while those who prefer a little privacy and rest will find use for the automated window tint and integrated lighting systems.
The latest Dreamliner aircraft in Virgin’s fleet has also been fitted with the best in class Economy 198 Racaro 3620 seats, with greater leg room, wider aisles and increased storage space.
Traditional Economy services such as amenities kits for overnight flights are still available, along with upgraded cabin technology.
Virgin Atlantic Airways’ Regional General Manager Southeast Asia, Gia Acitelli, said the airline is placing greater emphasis on setting higher standards of travel, especially for Economy passengers who make up 75 percent of on board passengers.
“We believe it’s important to offer these travellers enhanced services and the latest technologies to ensure their comfort and enjoyment during long-haul flights.”

“Virgin Atlantic has also pioneered a revolutionary synchronised infinity mood lighting systems so passengers can board, dine, relax and sleep all in the perfect lighting.
“The various colours of light have been calculated to adjust to the destination’s time zone throughout the flight, in order to help reduce jetlag.”

Earlier this year, Virgin’s founder, Sir Richard Branson, said airlines have exhausted their options when it comes to the inflight experience and the next logical step would be finding ways to speed up travel time.
This would include services like future Australia to London flights, which he hopes can be achieved within two to three hours.
