Virgin Australia has entered a new codeshare arrangement with Hainan Airlines that will give flyers greater access to China and earn more loyalty points with either airline.

Extra frequent flyer benefits?! We’re cheering!

As part of the new arrangement, Hainan Airlines will place its code on Virgin Australia’s domestic flights to Cairns, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide and Perth, as well as Virgin’s services to Auckland.

In return, Virgin Australia will place its code on Hainan’s services from Sydney operating to Xi’an, Changsha and Haikou; services from Melbourne operating to Xi’an and Changsha; and services from Brisbane and Cairns operating to Shenzhen.

The relationship will also see Velocity Frequent Flyer members earn Velocity Points and Status Credits and Fortune Wings Club members to earn Points and Status Qualifying Points when flying with either airline under the codeshare.

Virgin Australia Airlines Group Executive, Rob Sharp said that the partnership was an important step forward in the expansion of Virgin Australia’s offering into Greater China.

He continued, explaining that he’s confident that Hainan Airlines is the “best partner” for the carrier to expand with.

Flights under the codeshare partnership will go on sale 21 June 2018 for travel from 2 July onwards.
