Virgin Australia shares up almost 8% with ASX return; launches sale fares from $49

Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (VGN) is back on the Australian Stock Exchange today, 24 June 2025, after an almost five-year hiatus, following a transformative restructuring led by Bain Capital. The ASX 200 return saw Virgin Australia shares take off – up 7.9 per cent since listing.

Virgin Australia Holdings Limited (VGN) is back on the Australian Stock Exchange today, 24 June 2025, after an almost five-year hiatus, following a transformative restructuring led by Bain Capital. The ASX 200 return saw Virgin Australia shares take off – up 7.9 per cent since listing.

The news marks a major milestone of transformation and growth for the Australian carrier, which was acquired by Bain Capital in 2020.

Virgin Australia targeted an AUD$685 million initial public offering (IPO), representing 30.2 per cent of shares on issue.

Bain Capital, Qatar Airways Group, Virgin Group and Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) will retain the remainder of the shares.

Shares were offered at AUD$2.90, giving VGN a market capitalisation of approximately AUD$2.3 billion based on the offer price.

Eligible VA team members will also be awarded a Take-Off Grant of AUD$3,000 in share rights, converting to ordinary shares after a 24-month period if they’re still employed by the Group.

VA four-day network sale starts

To celebrate, VA has launched a four-day, network-wide ‘Bell to Boarding Sale’ to celebrate with one-way fares from AUD$49 and return international flights from $455.

The sale is on until 27 June 2025 for select travel dates between 22 July 2025 and 26 March 2026.
