Virgin Australia reboots package holidays with a Bali-first push

Virgin Australia has revived its holiday packages business six years after pulling it during the pandemic, relaunching Virgin Australia Holidays with bundled flight-and-hotel deals to Bali and Cairns.

Virgin Australia has revived its holiday packages business six years after pulling it during the pandemic, relaunching Virgin Australia Holidays with bundled flight-and-hotel deals to Bali and Cairns.

The return gives the airline a fresh play in the packaged leisure market, with launch offers from $745 per person and Velocity earn, redeem and Status Credit benefits built into eligible bookings.

The platform has been launched with Hopper, a travel technology company that powers online booking marketplaces for flights, hotels and holiday products. In this case, Hopper sits behind the booking platform, allowing customers to package flights and accommodation in one transaction.

The airline first launched Virgin Australia Holidays in 2003 before discontinuing the product in 2020. Its comeback comes as Virgin Australia and YouGov research found 75 per cent of surveyed Australians are more likely to book a holiday package through their preferred airline when the price is competitive.

Bali leads the launch sale

Virgin Australia Holidays has launched with packages from $745 per person, based on two travellers flying return from the Gold Coast to Denpasar on Economy Choice fares with four nights’ accommodation.

Other Bali packages include Canberra to Denpasar from $779 per person, Melbourne to Denpasar from $819, Sydney to Denpasar from $845 and Brisbane to Denpasar from $889.

Cairns is also included in the sale, with Brisbane to Cairns packages from $820 per person, Sydney to Cairns from $865 and Melbourne to Cairns from $929.

Packages are available to book until 11:59pm AEST on 27 May 2026, unless sold out earlier, for selected travel dates between 15 July 2026 and 16 March 2027.

Velocity gets pulled into the package

Velocity Frequent Flyer members can earn up to 4.5 Points per $1 spent on Virgin Australia Holidays packages, as well as redeem Points and earn Status Credits on eligible flights.

Virgin Australia Chief Marketing and Customer Operations Officer Libby Minogue said the relaunch expands the airline’s offering beyond flights.

“Virgin Australia Holidays marks an important step in expanding our offering beyond flights and into a more complete travel experience,” Minogue said.

“With more Australians seeking value and convenience, we’re bringing together flights, accommodation and Velocity benefits in one seamless booking experience, delivering greater value and at a time when cost of living remains front of mind,” she said.

Why it matters

The return of Virgin Australia Holidays puts another airline-backed package option in front of travellers at a time when value, convenience and loyalty benefits are doing plenty of heavy lifting.

For consumers, the appeal is clear: flights and accommodation in one booking path, with Points and Status Credits attached for Velocity members. For Virgin Australia, the platform gives the airline a way to compete for more of the leisure booking before travellers leave its ecosystem.

It is also a move worth watching for travel advisors, particularly in familiar short-haul and domestic leisure markets such as Bali and Cairns, where sharp pricing and simple booking paths can carry obvious consumer pull.
