Virgin Australia is set to become the first airline in the world to use a new hybrid technology that tailors the check-in experience for each guest.
Developed by global air transport IT provider SITA, the new technology represents a major enhancement to the travel experience throughout Western Australia and beyond. The 14 new hybrid desks at the terminal can be switched from self-service bag drop to full-service, traditional counters within five minutes. New swivel technology accelerates this changeover process.
“The new technology improves efficiency and speed, and importantly frees up our people to perform a concierge-style role and support our guests as they move through the new terminal.”
John Borghetti, CEO, Virgin Australia Group
According to John Borghetti, CEO of Virgin Australia Group, the new check-in technology is all about giving passengers a personalised check-in experience to better meet their needs. He adds that great customer service is what sets the airline apart from its competitors, and that Virgin Australia staff will always be on hand to assist passengers at every stage of the check-in process. The new check-in hall will feature seven service pods as well as a service desk where ground crew members can offer their support.
The Virgin Australia T1 Domestic Terminal is Australia’s newest domestic terminal and will become Virgin Australia’s home from 22 November. The world-class facility will connect the airline’s regional, domestic and international operations offering one of the fastest transfer times of any airline in Australia.
