Virgin, Tigerair & Jetstar resume flights to Bali after volcanic disruptions

Flights to and from Bali have been on and off so frequently over the last 12 months, they’re like the travel equivalent of Kourtney Kardashian and Scott Disick’s relationship.

And just like the celebrity couple, as annoying as those cancellations (break ups) are, we still love the destination (their relationship).

Overnight, Aussie travellers experienced a fresh round of cancellations to and from Denpasar Airport, as ash from Mount Rinjani near Lombok clouded over the gateway.

Jetstar, Tigerair and Virgin Australia delayed and cancelled up to a dozen services between the two destinations, making it the third time over the last 12 months Australian airlines were forced to suspend operations to and from the popular island.

However, in less than 12 hours later, airlines confirmed flights would resume this morning.

Jetstar said its pilots had assessed information from the Volcanic Ash Advisory Centre and determined it would be safe to fly today.

The airline is looking at adding extra flights to the schedule to meet the backlog of passengers after last night’s cancellations.

“As it is school holidays our whole network is extremely busy, so it will take us some time to get everyone on their way.”

“If they choose to, customers booked on flights to or from Bali on 27 and 28 September will be able to get a credit voucher for their flights or move their flights to/from Bali within the next 28 days without paying a booking change fee or fare difference.”

Virgin Australia and Tigerair also confirmed their services to Bali are back up and running today after confirming conditions in the vicinity of the airport have improved.

Tigerair is urging all passengers originally booked to travel on services today and tomorrow to “check in for their scheduled services as per normal unless otherwise notified by the airline”.

However, the carrier is expecting a knock on effect from yesterday’s cancellations and is predicting a few delays today.

“The airline apologises for any inconvenience caused for passengers affected by any delays and is working hard to get passengers to their destination as soon as possible, however safety always comes before schedule.”
