When you’re not there flight attendants clean up, they chat, they prepare for the next flight and they squeeze into the overhead compartment for a quick picture.
No, you didn’t misread.
It’s a new trend amongst air crew that has emerged on social media – male and female attendants squeezing into the carry-on storage space for a pose, peace sign and even a quick nap.
We’re not sure which genius helped launch the fad, but we’re loving the fun pics attendants are posting online.
Filing them under the hashtag #Overheadbin, the pics showcase the fun nature of flight attendants.
Instagram user and American Airlines employee Ashley captioned her overhead picture with gratitude for all that she’s been able to do on the job.
“I’m still in love with all the experiences this job has granted me.”
Ashley’s colleague Sarah joked that if you add a blanket and some Netflix it’s ‘the ideal place to spend a flight’, while Delta’s Kawika cautioned his followers to exercise ‘caution when opening the overhead bins as items may have shifted during the flight’.
As fun as the new trend is for attendants and travellers, it also exposes just how much room is actually available for your carry-on baggage.
So next time a flight attendant tells you your bag is too big for the overhead compartment, you might like to measure it up against him or her to see if it will really fit.
