WINDOWLESS PLANES are the future of flying ?: Emirates

Some say the future of flying is ultra-long-haul flights, others say it’s supersonic services and then there’s a few that believe it’s window-less planes.

Before your claustrophobia kicks in, listen to what Emirates’ leader has to say.

In an interview, the carrier’s President Tim Clark said he believes that in the future (perhaps nearish-future), airlines won’t equip their aircraft with windows BUT rather mimic windows that project live-camera feeds, NPR.org reported.

Emirates is currently using virtual windows in First Class.

The ‘virtual windows’ (as the cruise industry describes them) are already used in some of Emirates’ First Class suites and, according to the airline boss, they offer better views than the “naked eye”.

“On the outside there will appear to be no windows, but on the inside there will be a full display of windows,” he said. “And we will use fiberoptic camera technology to beam in the images from the outside into those windows — as we have done on the first class suites.”

“These images are such high-definition, with a very high pixel count, they are better than with the naked eye.”

“So I can see the modern aircraft of the future flying faster, higher — windowless.”

Clark continued, saying that removing windows could also reduce the weight of a plane by half, which in turn, could speed up services.

However, in saying that, Clark doesn’t believe commercial aircraft will be able to fly at supersonic speed any time soon.
