So grab your clogs and go and smell the tulips!

The rail company launched a direct service from London to both Amsterdam and Rotterdam in 2018, but passengers had to change trains in Brussels, going through passport control and security, on the way back to London.

But not anymore!

The new direct route from Amsterdam Centraal to London St Pancras will begin on April 30 and will take around four hours and nine minutes. (Which is very precise for an estimate!)

Direct is best

A direct service from Rotterdam will follow on May 18, and tickets for both journeys will go on sale on February 11, with fares starting at £35 each way.

There are currently three outbound services a day from the UK to the Netherlands. The direct inbound journey from Amsterdam to London will start with two services, hoping to be increased to three or four services a day in the future.

A relaxing, scenic and more sustainable way to travel, the rail journey cuts the trip between UK and Netherlands down by roughly 80% less carbon per person, against the same journey by air, according to Eurostar.

It really is a win, win situation!

“We’re continuing to invest in modern, efficient transport links with the continent so our businesses and tourism industry can flourish. The days of passengers being forced to decamp from the train at Brussels to file through passport control will soon be over, as we look forward to direct, return, high-speed services to Amsterdam and beyond.”

Grant Shapps, Secretary of State for Transport in the UK
