Sydneysiders will have even more carrier choices to the USA soon with the news that American Airlines will restart its daily Sydney–Los Angeles flights from 29 October 2022 to coincide with the US airline’s winter flying season.

Sydneysiders will have even more carrier choices to the USA soon with the news that American Airlines will restart its daily Sydney–Los Angeles flights from 29 October 2022 to coincide with the US airline’s winter flying season.

The Fort Worth-based airline paused its Down Under services for five months, stopping in May 2022 due to an aircraft shortage owing to delivery delays with the Boeing 787 aircraft on order.

American Airlines will operate its Boeing 787-9 aircraft on the rebooted SYD–LAX route, departing Sydney daily at 11:15am and touching down in LA at 7:03am.

The route will cater to the increasing number of Australians looking to travel to Los Angeles, both as a destination and as a gateway to other parts of the US, Europe, the Caribbean and Latin America.

Newly appointed Vice President of Operations and Commercial EMEA & APAC Kyle Mabry said: “Over recent months, we’ve seen the demand for North American flights from Asia-Pacific growing in popularity and competition.”

“We’re excited to return to Australia as a challenger airline, providing customers with great service, fares and experiences for a key market for American Airlines.”

American Airlines also offers codeshare service between SYD and LAX operated by oneworld alliance partner, Qantas.

American will unveil new Flagship Suite seats on its new Airbus A321XLR and Boeing 787-9 aircraft in 2024.
