They say that 1 April is the only day of the year when people actually question what they read on the Internet. So the question is: were you fooled by some of the stories we published last Friday?

In case you didn’t get a chance to read them all, here’s a wrap-up of last Friday’s April Fools’ Day shenanigans.

We had our own fun here at KarryOn with the announcement that we would be installing Japanese-style sleeping capsules in our Surry Hills office to ensure our staff get the sleep they need to keep up with our new 24/7 news by the second service.

We also revealed that we would be starting a new KarryOn Sleepover service where we’d invite our interstate and international guests over to the our HQ to spend a night with us.

For the time being this is just pure fantasy. But you never what the future holds…

In other news, Flight Centre dished its own serving of April Fools fun by claiming its new headquarters would feature an epic 15-storey slide running along the outside of the building, along with large-scale trampolines on each level so staff could propel themselves between floors.

Now how fun does that sound!

The announcement by FCL was somewhat believable, given its penchant for water slides. However, for the time being, this isn’t going to happen anytime soon – sorry Flighties!

Contiki poked a little fun at the industry too by announcing it would be cancelling its annual global conference to celebrate the launch of its new “Virtually Unlimited” product, which would give Aussies the chance to enjoy the thrill of travel without having to leave home through the magic of VR at one of ten ‘Virtual Experience Centres’ across Australia.

Contiki announced that it had five different virtual reality experiences to choose from, each costing just $149 a pop, and hinted that its new product would spell the end of airlines and hotels…

Good one Contiki!

Carnival Cruise Line Australia also had some exciting news on Friday, with the announcement that it would be launching its very own Carnival Submarine – a world first in ocean tourism.

The news, which was revealed on their Facebook page, was VERY well received, with the Facebook post attracting over 30K likes and 60K shares!

Since our beginning, Carnival has been a pioneer in high seas travel. We are therefore proud to announce the newest…

Meanwhile, Virgin Australia celebrated April Fools’ Day by announcing a new Kids Class service to be launched later in the year.

The new adult-free cabin class was to include kickable seats and an onboard teddy bear menu, and a concierge Trunki ride to the gate!

And last but not least, Travelodge got onboard the April Fools’ Day train with the announcement of a new “water wake-up” service, which would see the newly rebranded hotel chain waking up guests with a splash of water in the face!

According to Travelodge, the new service was intended to ensure that guests never miss an early morning flight again!

Well played oh Travelodge!

Were you fooled by any of our April Fools’ Day stories?
