The national carrier saw more Classic Flight Reward redemptions during 2022 than pre-pandemic, thanks to members making the most of Qantas Points earned in the past two years of lockdowns and restrictions.

After two years of travel restrictions and lockdowns, this year saw millions of Aussies take to the skies with many Qantas Frequent Flyers eager to cash in the billions of Qantas Points accumulated during the pandemic.

Qantas Loyalty CEO Olivia Wirth said Australia has some of the most active Frequent Flyers in the world.

“It’s been fantastic to see what Qantas Points have made possible for our members in 2022,” she said.

One FF clocked up 629,000km in the last 12 months – equivalent to circumnavigating the world 15 times, while one globetrotter landed in 59 different destinations.

Another boarded a plane almost every second day, travelling on 145 different flights – the record number of flights travelled by one individual in 2022.

Collectively, members used 40 billion points to secure Classic Reward seats with one FF scooping 67 Classic Reward seat bookings.

Qantas Hotels reported one FF cashed in 4.3 million points to book 10 nights at a premium Maldives resort with a private beach and overwater villas – the largest points redemption from an individual.

Another member used 3.6 million points for a private jet and luxury Hamilton Island experience as part of a Qantas Points Auction.

Savvy shoppers also redeemed points on products with one FF using 3.1 million points on a single shop that included multiple Apple Macbook Pros and Canon Premium Lens Kits.

“With millions of reward seats available over the next year and growing opportunities to earn and use Qantas Points, there’s a lot for our members to look forward to in 2023,” Ms Wirth added.

Qantas Group CEO Alan Joyce addressed Frequent Flyer members via video in August, thanking loyal customers for their patience as the national carrier worked to get its performance back on track after COVID challenges.
