Australia has dominated the list of 100 Most Loved Destinations in the World as compiled by the Tourism Sentiment Index (TSI), which tracks online content and conversations about thousands of global locations, with an impressive six spots in the top 20.

The 100 most-loved destinations are ranked according to consumer sentiment – what people really feel and prompt travellers to talk about.

So, what are some of the Australian destinations creating positive chatter online?

In the number two spot just behind the Maldives, Queensland’s Whitsundays achieved the highest ranking for Aussie locations out of more than 21,000 global destinations surveyed.

The Sunshine Coast (3), which took out the top spot in 2022, Victoria’s Yarra Valley (5) and Cairns (9) were also in the top 10 most-loved destinations.

Rounding out the top 20 list, WA’s Esperance came in at number 12 followed by tourism hotspot Noosa (14).

WA and Queensland’s top listings were recognised for their beaches or diving and snorkelling, while the Yarra Valley scored for its wineries and vineyards.

Across the ditch, Queenstown was the only New Zealand destination to make the list, coming in at number 25 and recognised for its accommodation options.

Shoalhaven and the Hunter Valley, both in New South Wales, entered at number 21 and 27 respectively, while Victoria’s Great Ocean Road took 28th place.

Other Aussie tourism places on TSI’s top 50 most-loved destinations included Byron Bay (31), Magnetic Island (37), Barossa Valley (39), Port Douglas and Daintree (43) and WA’s Exmouth (50).

For the capital cities, Adelaide ranked highest at number 65 followed by Brisbane (85), Perth (86) and Melbourne (89).

The TSI conducted an intensive study of its data – more than 1.6 billion online conversations and content pieces publicly available about 21,330 global destinations – to identify the 100 Most Loved Destinations.
