“With some dedicated number crunching we’ve produced a treasure trove of milestones and nuggets that shed light on an amazing year of travel,” Flight Centre global managing director Andrew Stark said.
“This wrap encapsulates all that was good, curious, and a little outrageous about the return of travel this year.
“We began 2022 still in the clutches of domestic and overseas travel restrictions, so it’s amazing to see how far we’ve come.”
Among the quirky takeaways from the findings were:
- The most expensive single cruise booking was $333,400.
- The most expensive international and domestic hotel bookings were $149,100, and $130,878 respectively.
- The longest hotel booking was for 1,092 days!
- The northern-most destination booked by Flight Centre Australia this year was a trip to Longyearbyen, Svalbard.
- 14,963 babies were booked on flights.
- The total number of rental cars booked was 31,319.
- Four-star hotels were most popular this year, accounting for nearly half (48.45%) of Flight Centre bookings
