Bonza will link the Sunshine Coast and Tasmania for the first time, starting 29 March 2024. The 12th route from its home base on the Sunshine Coast, the new service will run twice per week, on Mondays and Fridays, with tickets starting at $89 per person for one-way trips.

Bonza will link the Sunshine Coast and Tasmania for the first time, starting 29 March 2024. The 12th route from its home base on the Sunshine Coast, the new service will run twice per week, on Mondays and Fridays, with tickets starting at $89 per person for one-way trips.

The route marks the second service Bonza will operate to the Tasmanian city, following the launch of Gold Coast-Launceston flights in November.

The new route is included in Bonza’s big 1st birthday sale announced this week.

“We are delighted to connect the Sunny Coast and Launnie with direct low-cost air travel allowing customers to save time and money by avoiding lengthy road trips or metro city transfers and instead be able to maximise their holiday,” Bonza CEO Tim Jordan.

“The route is available to book now via the Fly Bonza app and those who get in quick can secure seats for as little as $49 per person one way as part of our Bonzaversary sale that goes until February 5.

“Launceston locals can ditch their Tassie tuxedos and explore more than 100km of sandy beaches while Sunny Coast travellers can lace up their hiking boots for an overland adventure across Tasmania as both destinations offer contrasting holiday options.

“Our Bonza legends are humbled by the ongoing community support from both the Sunshine Coast and Launceston. This service is great news for travellers and for local tourism and hospitality industries.”

Echoing Jordan’s comments, Sunshine Coast Airport CEO Chris Mills said the new service would be a boost for two-way tourism.

“The new direct service provides a significant boost to both regions, connecting our two tourism destinations for the very first time,” he remarked.

“It will open up a new market for tourism operators here on the Sunshine Coast, with Tasmanians now having direct access to our pristine beaches, incredible restaurants and unique experiences.

“Launceston is now the 15th destination on offer from Sunshine Coast Airport and places Tasmania firmly on the doorstep for locals. Launceston has a rich history and offers culinary experiences with incredible natural wonders for people to explore.

“Our partnership with Bonza has helped connect the Sunshine Coast to new destinations across Australia, creating more ease, choice, and flexibility. It’s an exciting time for the Airport and our region.”

Meanwhile, Launceston Airport CEO Shane O’Hare said, “We’re thrilled to see Bonza expanding its Tasmanian footprint and opening new markets for tourists to visit our beautiful part of the world and discover the city of gastronomy”.

“The Sunshine Coast is a growing hub for small and medium businesses so this connection will also help facilitate the growth of Tasmanian enterprises by providing new opportunities for collaboration,” he added.

In September, Bonza teamed up with Aussie travel tech startup Awai to offer Bonza Holidays – packages that include flights, stays, insurance, car hire, activities and more.

The next month, Australia’s newest carrier launched its group bookings arm for reservations of 10 or more travellers.
