#BookThemOut: South Australia Is Open For Tourism & Needs Your Support

The South Australian Tourism Commission has launched the #BookThemOut campaign, encouraging domestic tourism to Kangaroo Island & the Adelaide Hills region following the bushfire crisis that devastated the areas.

SATC’s executive director of marketing, Brent Hill, shared the #BookThemOut initiative on LinkedIn, stating, “Obviously our first job as a Tourism Commission was to provide comms and to make sure that we were providing accurate up to date information for tourists and any potential tourists,”

“Initially our messages were all around donations. But, as the fires abated, we travelled into the fire zones – first to the Hills and then to KI, within a day or so of it being safe and able to do so, to talk to the guys on the ground about what they needed and wanted,” He said.

“We didn’t want to get in the way of recovery or of emergency personnel. But what came back overwhelmingly was that they wanted to get back to their jobs – doing tourism. Many of these brave guys were CFS volunteers out fighting fires all over KI and the Hills, but their jobs were actually to run tourism operations, and that’s what they’re proud of and want to do again.”

Go on, #bookthemout

If you have been pondering on how you can help bushfire affected areas, and also you feel like you need a long weekend break, South Australia needs you.

The #BookThemOut campaign was started to highlight how beautiful these destinations still are and with an aim to share local bed & breakfasts, wineries, restaurants, and hotels that are in need of backing.

“Now more than ever, our beautiful Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island regions need your support. Tourism is vital for these regional economies to rebuild after the Cudlee Creek and Kangaroo Island bushfires. So together let’s #BookThemOut. Round up some friends and plan a trip to their backyard. Tour with a local guide, meet the wildlife, buy the local produce, spirits and wine and stay a few nights. So much of the Adelaide Hills and Kangaroo Island look exactly as you’d expect, pristine, pure and perfect.” SATC says on its website.

The entirety of the Adelaide Hills region has now reopened for tourism businesses.

Every dollar you spend can make a positive difference, perhaps more than you will ever know.

Funds will be donated from bookings made between 26 January – 21 February 2020 which includes products and offers featured in the new Australia on Sale flyers currently being distributed to stores.

“It is imperative that we offer our support to everyone affected by the current bushfire crisis, not only through donations but by visiting the areas which rely on tourism, such as Kangaroo Island.”
