The G20 summit will be in full swing in Brisbane this weekend, however the locals will be escaping the city in masses for the long weekend as coastal hotel bookings peak.
According to Wotif.com’s Product Director Donna Rodios, Brisbane hotels are already fully booked with G20 related business and as a result there is a reduced supply for hotels in the city. As a result, hotel bookings on the Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast as well as coastal spots across New South Wales were recording significant increases thanks to the bonus long weekend.
“Plenty of Brisbane locals will be packing up the car and making the most of the long weekend, with the Gold Coast seeing a significant week on week increase and popular destinations like Broadbeach recording a 50% increase, Surfers Paradise seeing an increase of 25% and Burleigh Heads up by 29%,” Ms Rodios said.
“The Sunshine Coast will also reap the benefits, with accommodation on Wotif.com almost fully booked. We’re seeing Maroochydore bookings almost doubling week on week and Noosa and Caloundra experiencing a 74% increase”

“We can expect to see beaches across the New South Wales border attracting holidaymakers with Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour and Newcastle all experiencing a surge in bookings during the long weekend.”
The Sunshine Coast will also reap the benefits, with accommodation on Wotif.com almost fully booked.
Ms Rodios said while drive destinations were proving popular, people were taking the opportunity to go on mini holidays to Melbourne and Bali.
“Brisbane locals are jumping on the chance to take a mini break and go to events further afield, with Wotif flight bookings to Melbourne almost doubling this Thursday and Friday compared to the same time last week. There’s no doubt the Katy Perry concert is drawing fans to the city, with hotel bookings up by 25% for the long weekend, compared to the previous week.
Wotif.com has even seen accommodation bookings in Bali experiencing a week on week increase.
