Wendy Wu welcomes Vietnam reopening as "great news for Australian travellers"

Wendy Wu Tours is looking ahead to Vietnam’s #ArrivalRevival, after the country’s tourism ministry on Tuesday proposed a full reopening to international visitors and a lifting of nearly all travel restrictions from March 15.

Vietnam is finalising a plan to fully reopen its borders to foreign tourists from 15 March, as it looks to accelerate its economic recovery and revive a battered tourism sector.

“The approval is in accordance with the government’s new responses to the pandemic, which are adapting safely and flexibly and controlling the virus effectively,” the government said in a statement.

Starting on March 15, it is expected that visitors to Vietnam will have to undergo a one-day quarantine and test negative for COVID-19 before departure and upon arrival, making it an easy country for Australians to travel to.

Vietnam will reopen three months earlier than planned even as coronavirus cases surge. It follows similar reopening steps taken by other Southeast Asian countries like Thailand and the Philippines, where the Omicron COVID-19 variant has caused a recent spike in new infections, but fewer hospitalisations and deaths than previous variants.

Paul Dymond Managing Director at Asia specialist Wendy Wu Tours said: “This is great news for Australian travellers. Vietnam is a destination that was growing in popularity pre-Covid-19 and in the two years that borders have been closed Vietnam has continued to expand and enhance what is on offer for tourists.

“We are particularly excited about having clients experience our new cruise ship on the Mekong River, the RV Victoria Mekong. With our tours being fully inclusive we can put our travellers’ minds at rest as we navigate them through all the new requirements, as well as including everything they need to truly experience the destination.

“Since Sri Lanka and India opened and Japan have announced a sequential reopening, we have seen a steady increase in enquires, and we expect to see more Australians travelling as requirements continue to be relaxed.

Full entry requirements for travellers to Vietnam are being finalised.
