Carnival has selected the winning name for its new green waterslide that will be featured onboard Carnival Splendor upon her arrival into Australia in December 2019, following a state-wide competition.

In a tribute to the popular Green Thunder waterslide onboard Carnival Spirit, Carnival challenged Aussies to test their creativity by naming the next exciting waterslide on Carnival Splendor.

Drum roll please – the winning waterslide name is…

“GREEN LIGHTNING!”

No! Not Greased lightning! (though that would have been fun too).

Debbie Dye from Cooranbong, NSW beat almost 3000 entries to be crowned victorious with her winning name and most creative entry.

In coming up with the winner, Debbie scored an exclusive invitation to the waterslide’s official naming ceremony where she’ll be one of the first in Australia to ride down the slide.

Plus, Debbie and her family will enjoy a 10-night cruise on Carnival Splendor to visit the breathtaking islands of the South Pacific.

Towering 50 metres above the waterline, the height of the Harbour Bridge, Green Lightning will launch with an impressive 11.3-metre free-fall drop as the capsule floor opens, followed by a slingshot curve, twisting and sliding guests into a giant green swirling bowl.

Yikes. We’re scared already.

Green Lightning will join its sister slide, the yellow 104 metre long Twister Waterslide™, in Carnival Splendor’s green and gold WaterWorks, alongside MiniRacer slides, splash toys and tipping buckets.

“A massive congratulations to Debbie for coming up with such a fantastic name and submitted the best creative entry. Green Lightning is not only a subtle nod to the waterslide on Carnival Spirit, but it also perfectly describes how guests will free fall at lightning speed,”

Jennifer Vandekreeke, Vice President Carnival Cruise Line Australia
