Rub-A-Dub-Dub: The Tourism Industry Embraces COVID Clean Program

It's great to see that more than 1300 Australian tourism businesses have signed up to be certified as COVID Clean, through a new online program reflecting the proactive efforts by industry to ensure safe tourism and travel experiences. 

It’s great to see that more than 1300 Australian tourism businesses have signed up to be certified as COVID Clean, through a new online program reflecting the proactive efforts by industry to ensure safe tourism and travel experiences. 

The COVID Clean Practicing Business Program, developed by ATIC, generates customised cleaning checklists tailored for the tourism industry based on Safe Work Australia recommendations and individual State or Territory requirements. 

ATIC Executive Director Simon Westaway said the strong take up of the Program demonstrated the industry’s genuine commitment to customer and employee health. 

“In just over a month since the COVID Clean program was launched more than 1300 businesses from across Australia have signed up,” Mr Westaway said.

“The free online COVID Clean program gives tourism businesses the resources they need to implement practices such as social distancing, customer guidance and risk registers to minimise spread of COVID-19 and provide peace of mind to customers and employees.”

The program

COVID Clean

The COVID Clean Practicing Business module is designed to support businesses in their efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 and to provide an assurance to visitors that these steps are being taken.

On completion of the module, the business will have a customised daily, weekly, monthly and annual cleaning checklists which can be initiated into the business immediately. In addition, the risk register provides support to understand how the business can minimise risks arising from COVID19 and associated business practices.

The program also provides further resources to support staff training including workplace signage/posters.

Business that display COVID Clean Practising Business logo provide a reassurance to customers that they have developed and initiated business practices which are specifically aimed to maintain high hygiene standards within their business aimed to stop the spread of COVID19.

Kerry Meares, owner of Coonawarra Experiences in South Australia, said the COVID Clean Practicing Business accreditation was straight forward, informative, and a comprehensive refresher on cleaning protocols.
