A huge congratulations to Australian business leader, Ann Sherry AO, who has been inducted into cruising’s Hall of Fame at the 19th Annual Cruise Industry Awards, recognising her pivotal role in the industry’s success over more than a decade.
Ms. Sherry was named as the 16th member of the Hall of Fame by CLIA Managing Director Australasia Joel Katz, before more than 500 guests at an event hosted by Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) Australasia on Saturday, February 15,
Highlighting the sector’s sustained growth since she entered as CEO of Carnival Australia in 2007, Mr. Katz said Ms. Sherry had worked passionately to help transform the Australasian cruise industry.

“With a dynamic combination of unique skills, personality and determination, combined with a far-sighted vision, she successfully placed the cruise industry and its most critical issues, front-and-centre,”

“She also used her personal reputation as one of Australia’s most prominent business people to grow the reputation of cruising among business, government, and media, working to ensure that others in the tourism industry, and policymakers, understand the economic value of cruising.”
Having begun her career as a radiographer, Ms. Sherry moved into government and then banking before joining Carnival Australia, where she became “an outstanding advocate for the cruise industry”, Mr. Katz said.
“Her vision has touched on matters such as port infrastructure, opening new cruise destinations, ensuring island communities in the Pacific share the economic benefits of cruising, and safeguarding the marine environment and the cultures of the people who support cruise visitors,” Mr. Katz said.
“She is a leading advocate in the wider community for gender equality and diversity in the workplace, she mentors several people across a diverse range of businesses and community groups, and she holds several board positions.”
Ms. Sherry was awarded the Centenary Medal in 2001 and an Order of Australia in 2004. She was named overall winner of the Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence Award in 2015.
She was honoured on Saturday night at CLIA’s 19th Annual Cruise Industry Awards, held at The Star Sydney where a total of 19 awards were presented to members of the cruise community.
