CELEBRITY EDGE: Inside a cruise ship so luxurious it'll shatter your views of cruising

Celebrity Cruises’ isn’t lacking any confidence when it comes to its new billion-dollar vessel called Celebrity Edge, which made its debut in Fort Lauderdale, Florida this week, ahead of her maiden voyage on 9 December.

Describing her as “the most anticipated ship of the year”, Celebrity Cruises expects Celebrity Edge to shake up the industry with her unique features that were co-designed and co-created by world-renowned interior designer Kelly Hoppen and architect Tom Wright (WKK).

What exactly are these super special unique features? Everyone wants to know & lucky for you, we found out:

 

1. She has a Magic Carpet

Shining, shimmering & splendid is Celebrity Edge with a Magic Carpet that much like the one in Aladdin can fly, kind of.

The Magic Carpet is an open-air venue cantilevered off the side of the ship that moves between according to mood and function.

Guests who step onto the Magic Carpet on Deck 16 will find a specialty restaurant offering a special ‘Dinner on the Edge’, on Deck 14 it’s an open-air extension to the main pool, on Deck 5 it extends one of the ship’s the specialty restaurants and on Deck 2 it’s a component to ‘Destination Getaway’ where gets board tender ships.

 

2. She has a Rooftop Garden

Okay, so if you’re a fan of Celebrity, then you know most of the line’s vessels have a garden of some sort on the top deck. But, what makes Celebrity Edge‘s landscape so unique is that it was designed by Tom Wright (the guy behind the Burj Al Arab Hotel) who turned it into a “lively, spacious environment” inspired by childhood playgrounds.

 

3. She has 124 spa treatments

There’s no shortage of choice inside the 2,000 square metre Spa featuring panoramic ocean views and 124 treatments from 31 therapists.

Inside the soothing space, guests can choose from new and signature treatments such as the Ocean Spa Wave Massage, Hot Mineral Body Boost, Poultice-Powered Muscle Release and Zero Gravity Wellness Massage.

 

4. She has an Eden

No, it’s not an outdoor rainforest with waterfalls and a potentially hazardous apple, it’s a multi-level transformative space with floor-to-ceiling glass looking out to the ocean.

Eden’s use will change according to the time of the day starting with ‘chillful mornings’, ‘playful afternoons’ and ending with ‘sinful evenings’. Naughty!

 

5. She has food created by a Michelin-starred Chef

Nom, nom, nom. Michelin-starred chef Cornelius Gallagher has curated menus of ALL 29 unique food and beverage experiences onboard Celebrity Edge.

 

6. She has split-level villas

Accommodation of choice! The Split-level Edge Villas are spread out across two stories and come with private plunge pools, direct walk-out access to The Retreat Sundeck and more.

Other fancy onboard accommodation include the Penthouse Suites that have two two-bedrooms, two bathrooms, soaking tubs on the veranda, dual walk-through showers and walk-in closets.

 

Although Celebrity Edge will not be making her way Down Under anytime soon (she’ll initially cruise the Caribbean before crossing the Atlantic in 2019 for Mediterranean cruises), Celebrity Cruises Australia & New Zealand Vice President and Managing Director, Susan Bonner, said she’s already “hugely popular” among Aussies who are already booking her European and Caribbean cruises.
