Fiji cruising takes a hit as MS Caledonian Sky rejoins APT in Europe

APT will retake ownership of MS Caledonian Sky, announcing the vessel will cruise the Mediterranean for the first time with Travelmarvel in 2025 after a short stint in Fiji.

APT will retake ownership of MS Caledonian Sky, announcing the vessel will cruise the Mediterranean for the first time with Travelmarvel in 2025 after a short stint in Fiji.

Previously, APT operated the MS Caledonian Sky in Western Australia’s Kimberley region. It was then acquired by Captain Cook Cruises Fiji last year, from which time it operated luxury cruises to some of Fiji’s remote outer islands

After just eight months into its Fijian deployment, CCCF revealed that it would be departing its fleet in November 2024.

“After a highly successful season Caledonian Sky will depart Fiji in November 2024,” the company announced.

“The final expedition will complete an outstanding twelve months of elevated luxury expedition cruises never seen before in the region.

“It has been particularly special to open up islands such as Buliya, Matuku, Cicia and Vanuavatu to visitors for the first time and bring visitors back to the beautiful Vatulele for the first time since 2012.

“Our visits have been providing the benefits of tourism to those extremely remote communities and have been met with great enthusiasm and extremely warm hospitality by the villages.”

The final Lau expedition departs on the 26 October.

The MS Caledonian Sky’s 2025 season with Travelmarvel will run from April to October 2025, with 13 itineraries.

MS Caledonian Sky hosts 100 guests with a 70-member crew. According to APT, it will boast one of the highest crew-to-guest ratios in Europe.

The new itineraries will include an 8-day Greek Island Explorer from Athens, starting at $4,995 per person, 15-day Mediterranean Treasures from Venice to Istanbul, and 15-day Adriatic & Aegean Delights from Venice to Athens, start at $9,995.

“Thanks to its boutique size, the MS Caledonian Sky allows you to access smaller ports and dock right in the heart of a city or town,” Travelmarvel CEO David Cox said.

“With cabins starting at a generous 22sqm, guests will find incredible value in spacious accommodations tailored for comfort and relaxation. A true small ship experience, however with the indulgence of bigger suites.

“With the ship’s shallow draught, we are able to slip away from the pack, into remote coastal towns or shallow waters. Guests will get a greater insight into authentic Mediterranean local life and on many days, we also stay docked later into the evening so that guests can explore after other tourists have left for the day.”
