Disney has announced Star Wars characters will be heading out to sea on one of its cruise ships next year as part of eight special Star Wars-themed sailings.
This one is not just for the kids.
Held on the 2,500-passenger Disney Fantasy, the seven-night Star Wars Day at Sea voyages will offer guests cruising around the Caribbean meet-and-greet with characters, Star Wars-themed children’s activities, food and beverages you’d expect to see in the movies and special merchandise.
There will also be Star Wars-themed deck parties and exclusive at-sea screenings of the Star Wars films and the new Disney animated series, Star Wars Rebels.
But perhaps the coolest (Star Wars is cool okay) part of the trip is the Jedi Training Academy experience where younger cruisers (damn adults miss out) learn lightsaber movers.
Further details will be announced closer to cruise departures, but so far it seems the infamous Darth Vader will be onboard along with his storm troopers as well as Chewbacca.
The sailings are scheduled next year for 9 and 23 January; 6 and 20 February; 5 and 19 March; 2 and 16 April.
The cruise departs from Port Canaveral, Florida with visits to be made in Cozumel, Mexico; Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands; and Disney’s private island in the Bahamas, Castaway Cay.
The Star Wars cruise follows Disney’s recent announcement that it will bring popular Frozen characters aboard select sailings to Norway and Alaska.
During the seven and nine-night voyages, the ship will be transformed into a winter wonderland to recreate Queen Elsa’s mountain-top palace.
Youngsters will also get to meet their favourite Frozen characters, including Elsa, Anna, Sven and Olaf as well as enjoy Frozen-themed dinners, a deck party and a song and show production.
Fun fact: Disney Fantasy is the ship Mariah Carey christened in 2012.
