Movers + Shakers: Karryon welcomes Sally Macmillan as a regular cruise contributor

Respected journalist and cruise specialist Sally Macmillan has joined Karryon as a regular contributor to bolster the publication's cruise coverage.

Respected journalist and cruise specialist Sally Macmillan has joined Karryon as a regular contributor to bolster the publication’s cruise coverage.

Sally Macmillan has been travelling the world on ships of all sizes and styles since 2008, reporting on her many incredible journeys for well-known national and international publications.

She has sailed on vessels that range from a 33-foot yacht – in the Indonesian archipelago (before expedition companies started cruising in the region) – to the world’s biggest passenger ship in the Caribbean and dozens more ships in between.

Having travelled to all seven continents, Sally’s personal highlights include expedition cruises to the Canadian Arctic, Antarctica, the Galapagos Islands, West Papua and the New Zealand Subantarctic Islands, uber-luxe river cruises in France and India, and experiencing the high life on just about every prestigious cruise line at sea.

She is thrilled to join Karryon to keep sharing the news in the ever-changing cruise industry.

Sally’s contributions will complement the existing teams’ cruising coverage, headed by Editor Mark Harada. Together, Sally and the broader editorial team will check out new ship launches, get the latest intel on significant trends onboard and onshore, explore what’s in port and, of course, alert you to special events, outstanding offers, roadshows and more.

“Cruising has come back bigger and better than ever post-pandemic, and the 2023-24 season Down Under is set to break records,” said Sally.

“Cruise lines such as Virgin Voyages, DisneyCruise Line and Scenic are visiting for the first time, and 70 ships will sail locally – cruisers are in for an exciting summer,” said Sally.

“I’m delighted to have Sally come ‘on board’ with us at Karryon,” said Katrina Holden, Editorial Director of Luxury at Karryon.

“In my previous roles as an Editor of several consumer travel publications, I have always found Sally to be one of the finest cruise editorial writers and commentators in Australia today. As a trained journalist and editor, finding an angle and delivering news and compelling features is at her core. Sally is also extremely knowledgeable, well-versed and well-travelled when it comes to cruising – in all categories, styles and price points,” said Katrina.

Sally will compile a weekly news cruising wrap for Karryon (you can read her first piece here) and regular, in-depth features that will focus on specific operators or topics in cruising, such as her latest piece about world cruises for 2025.

All aboard!
