How many meals does one cruise ship specialty dining restaurant serve in five years? Well, according to P&O Cruises, the answer is roughly 116,667.
And that’s just mains.
The cruise line this week celebrated its five-year partnership with celebrity chef Luke Mangan at a special event on the Gold Coast.
The party with some 120 P&O fans and partners commemorated half a decade since the first ‘Salt grill by Luke Mangan’ was opened on Pacific Jewel.
An instant hit amongst guests (I’ve tried it – so good!), the restaurant was soon after opened on Pacific Dawn and Pacific Pearl, with each ship serving a full house twice each night.
According to the cruise line, in total the restaurants have served over 350,000 guests.
This figure is only going to get bigger, when ‘Salt grill’ opens on the line’s latest ships, Pacific Aria and Pacific Eden, which are scheduled to join the fleet in November.
In addition to the ‘Salt grill’ restaurant, the ships will both offer a ‘Salt grill’ bar, perfect for pre and post dinner drinks.
“From the first night we opened our doors on Pacific Jewel, P&O’s guests have embraced the Salt grill experience.”
Luke Mangan, Celebrity Chef
“To be celebrating five ‘Salt grill’ restaurants at sea five years later is a fantastic result, which speaks volumes about P&O’s innovative approach to cruise cuisine as well as Australians’ love of good food.”
