MSC Group opens new eye-catching Barcelona cruise terminal with a luxury twist

MSC Group has officially cut the ribbon on its sleek new cruise terminal in Barcelona, marking the occasion with the first visit of luxury ship EXPLORA II.

MSC Group has officially cut the ribbon on its sleek new cruise terminal in Barcelona, marking the occasion with the first visit of luxury ship EXPLORA II.

The new terminal, designed by Catalonian architecture studio Ricardo Bofill Taller de Arquitectura, brings bold style and sustainability to the Port of Barcelona, MSC says.

According to the cruise company, its Gaudi-inspired ceramic façade and sea-blue hues reflect the city’s artistic soul, while solar panels, rainwater harvesting and natural lighting have earned it a Gold LEED certification.

Inside, guests will find a spacious lounge, exclusive VIP area and retail spaces designed to kick off the cruise experience in style. The cruise company says it’s all about delivering a seamless journey from shore to ship.

In addition, shore power will be added by 2027, allowing docked ships to switch off engines and reduce emissions.

This summer, five MSC ships will call Barcelona home, including MSC World Europa and MSC Seaside.

EXPLORA II – the latest from MSC’s luxury brand Explora Journeys – will also sail the Mediterranean with Barcelona as a main homeport. Her immersive itineraries promise guests elegance, culture and connection.

“Barcelona has been a strategic partner for MSC Group for more than four decades and for MSC Cruises for more than 25 years, and our commitment is unwavering,” MSC Group, Cruise Division Executive Chairman Pierfrancesco Vago said.

“The new terminal is not just an investment in modern port infrastructure but demonstrates that we are aligned with the city’s strategy for a more balanced and sustainable model of tourism, all whilst bringing positive economic benefits to the region.
