Norwegian Cruise Line hosts event-of-the-year contender to mark Norwegian Luna announcement

After revealing details of Norwegian Luna on Thursday, Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) followed it up with a Lunar-themed party in Sydney to celebrate its newest Prima class vessel – the 21st ship in its fleet. And NCL couldn’t have timed the event better.

“We know that tonight’s event comes after yesterday’s harvest super moon,” Angell told guests at the party, who comprised, travel industry partners, media (including Karryon) and other stakeholders.

“And the end of my speech will be just before the rise of tonight’s moon at 7.08. I’m told tonight’s moon will be equally as good as yesterday’s super moon.”

Sure enough, it was. And guests even had two large telescopes from which to view the experience – from the deck of the 31st-floor Aster Bar at the InterContinental Sydney, which incidentally also has sweeping and spectacular views of the harbour (that for once, played second fiddle to the lunar landscape).

Continuing the lunar theme, NCL even arranged for astrophysicist Dr Angel Rafael Lopez Sanchez to talk about all things lunar. Did you know, Sydney will experience a total solar eclipse on 22 July 2028? So mark that date in your calendars, Sydneysiders!

Elsewhere, Suzie Goumas from Róse & Renoir, painted an impressionist’s view of Istanbul (which was given away as a door prize to one lucky guest) next to a giant inflatable moon (that changed colour), while Baker Boys Band also lent their musical talents to the evening.

With lunar-themed cocktails, an enormous charcuterie board and other tasty treats, this just might be an event-of-the-year contender.

Speaking to guests at the event, NCL Vice President and Managing Director Asia-Pacific Ben Angell gave a rundown of what cruisers can expect onboard its fourth Prima class and second Prima Plus class vessel, Norwegian Luna.

“A variety of NCL’s elevated guest experiences will also make their comeback on Norwegian Luna, including Ocean Boulevard, a 46,000 square foot walkway which wraps around the entire ship to bring guests closer to the sea, via Beach Club, an adults-only open-air lounge, Infinity Beach, which provides sweeping views of the ocean, and an expansive upper pool deck equipped with day beds for soaking up the sun.”
