Princess takes The Voice out to sea

Princess Cruises is taking karaoke at sea to the next level by recreating the popular singing competition 'The Voice' onboard its ships.

Princess Cruises is taking karaoke at sea to the next level by recreating the popular singing competition ‘The Voice’ onboard its ships.

‘The Voice of the Ocean’ debuts on Regal Princess in October and will see the talented and the not-so-talented sing their hearts out in the hopes that one of Princess’ three team coaches spins the iconic ‘I Want You’ chair.

Well, not quite.

Just like the hit TV show, ‘The Voice of the Ocean’ will put hopefuls through the audition process, mentor rehearsal sessions and then a live final performance where guests choose the winner.

To be in the running for Princess’ competition, contestants will need to be over the age of 16.

The Voice

We suspect these guys won’t be judging on the ship.

They’ll have two opportunities to audition during open karaoke in one of the ships lounges. Those who get most support from the crowd and cruise staff will move on to the compete.

Selected singers will be assigned a mentor, who will meet with them during the cruise to rehearse with the Princess Band and back-up singers to prepare for their performance.

The ‘Voice of the Ocean’ Live Show will be held on the last night of the cruise.

Hosted by the Cruise Director, nine contestants will perform in the Princess Theatre and one will be named ‘The Voice of the Ocean’.

Regal Princess

Regal Princess will be the first ship to the The Voice of the Ocean.

The cruise line couldn’t get Christina Aguilera to sign on the judge the competitions, however, three high-profile members from the line’s guest entertainers, Hotel GM or even Captain will act as team coaches.

Princess Cruises Vice President of Entertainment Adrian Fischer expects ‘The Voice of the Ocean’ will be a huge hit with Princess guests, whether they are up on stage or in the audience deciding who gets their vote.

“Guests will feel like they are part of the globally popular TV show performing on a high tech set almost identical to the hit show, including rotating red chairs and a live Princess band with back-up singers.”

“We’re excited to discover and foster undiscovered talent and offer guests a whole new way to express their love of music and performing.”

After debuting on Regal Princess, the competition will be taken onboard Royal Princess and Caribbean Princess in November.

Eight additional ships will offer ‘The Voice of the Ocean’ rolling out between January and May 2016.
