Sydney has welcomed Viking back to Australia for the first time since January 2020.
Viking Orion sailed into Sydney Harbour yesterday as part of its 17-day Komodo & the Australian Coast itinerary from Bali to Sydney.
“After being absent from our shores for so many years, it was so special to be on board as we sailed through the heads and into Sydney Harbour,” said Viking Australia and New Zealand managing director Michelle Black, who was on board the ship.
“We’ve been waiting a long time for this day to come.”
A Viking first down under
Viking Orion will soon be joined by Viking Mars and Viking Neptune for the 2022/2023 summer cruising season. This is the first time Australia will be graced by three Viking ships in one season.

Viking Mars, which only launched in May this year, will arrive into Darwin next week. After that, she will travel down the Queensland and New South Wales coastlines to arrive into Sydney on 27 December. From there, she will embark on a special New Year’s sailing to Auckland.
Viking’s newest ship, Viking Neptune, will arrive in Australia in February 2023 as part of Viking’s World Cruise. This is the cruise industry’s first ship to test hydrogen power for onboard operations.
“We are so excited to be welcoming three of our beautiful ships to Australia this year, a first for Viking,” said Black.
“And we can’t wait to welcome so many of our past Australian and New Zealand guests back onboard this season and introducing the Viking cruising experience to our new guests.”
Viking’s 15-day Australia & New Zealand itinerary from Sydney to Auckland or vice versa has become a bestseller this season as many choose to cruise closer to home for their return to travel.
Viking recently confirmed more dates for its 2024 expedition journeys, including the 65-day Ushuaia to Milwaukee trip in February 2024.
