Sustainalytics: Hurtigruten Group shines with top sustainable cruising creds

Recognised by the esteemed Morningstar Sustainalytics, Hurtigruten Travel Group (HRG) has achieved the distinction of the lowest ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) risk rating for investment amongst cruise companies, securing a place in the top quartile of the broader global "Travel, Lodging and Amusement" sector.

Recognised by the esteemed Morningstar Sustainalytics, Hurtigruten Travel Group (HRG) has achieved the distinction of the lowest ESG (Environmental, Social, & Governance) risk rating for investment amongst cruise companies, securing a place in the top quartile of the broader global “Travel, Lodging and Amusement” sector.

Hurtigruten Travel Group received an industry-leading ESG Risk Rating of 19.7 (Low) following an assessment by Morningstar Sustainalytics, a global ESG research, ratings and data firm.

With ratings categorised across five risk levels, Hurtigruten Group is the only cruise company awarded a Low ESG Risk Rating and ranks fourth (out of 127 companies) in the “Travel, Lodging and Amusement” subindustry category.

Daniel Skjeldam, HRG’s CEO, encapsulates the driving force behind the rating: “Our dedication to emissions, nature, community, and our teams.”

Their significant 66 million euros investments to curb emissions underscore this. The company’s 2022 Green Bond epitomises sustainable financing, enabling environment-centric upgrades, such as introducing their fifth battery hybrid-powered ship.

With governance enhancements, executive pays tied to ESG goals, a robust whistleblower policy, and a local procurement focus; Hurtigruten is rewriting the rulebook on corporate responsibility. As Morningstar Sustainalytics pointed out, HRG’s holistic approach, backed by commendable policies, sets them apart.

Indeed, Hurtigruten Group is a pacesetter. Their milestones speak volumes – from shunning heavy fuel oil and single-use plastics early on to the launch of hybrid ships. The ongoing green makeover, worth 100 million euros, aims at slashing CO2 and NOx emissions considerably.

Hurtigruten Norway’s Sea Zero initiative, aiming for the world’s most energy-efficient cruise ship, and the electrification of their Svalbard operations further amplify HRG’s green commitment.

Closing words from Skjeldam resonate with every eco-conscious traveller: “Transparency is paramount. We’re not just in this for ourselves. We’re setting the bar high for the entire industry, ensuring that our beautiful world remains the ultimate travel destination.”
