Czech President Wants To Ban Tourists For The Next Year

The Czech Republic's President Milos Zeman has said he wants the Czech border to remain closed for at least another year to protect the country from another wave of COVID-19.

The Czech Republic’s President Milos Zeman has said he wants the Czech border to remain closed for at least another year to protect the country from another wave of COVID-19.

The President went on record this week during an interview with Radio Frekvence 1, expressing his belief that if Czech people visited countries where the virus is still spreading, they could bring the virus back with them.

Equally, tourists from abroad could bring the virus into the country.

“I am of the opinion that the state border must remain closed for at least another year,” he said in a radio interview over the weekend.

“Otherwise, foreign travel can lead to a new wave of the epidemic,” he said.

He also went on to say that citizens should stay within their country over summer and enjoy the beauty around them.

He announced that he would be spending his summer in his house in the Vysočina Region.

It follows comments from the country’s Deputy Health Minister Roman Prymula who said that foreign travels may be restricted for one or two years.

Naturally, travel agencies and other tourism companies are concerned about the proposed length of the restrictions.

They’ve proposed that during the summer there could at least be trips to the nearby coutries of Slovakia and Croatia.

The president’s words come alongside news from officials that the virus outbreak in the country is under control.
