Travelling through Bali Airport just got easier after the Denpasar gateway introduced a streamlined departure process for visitors.
Previously, travellers leaving the Indonesian island had to have their luggage screened before checking in, a pain point for passengers. But the airport has removed that process, with inspections now only occurring after passport control.
The move is part of a push by the Denpasar hub, officially known as I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport, to improve the overall passenger experience without compromising safety.

“Starting from June 12, 2025, adjustments have been implemented to the inspection of passengers and luggage, such as checked baggage and cabin baggage, after the self-reporting process or check-in process,” Bali Airport General Manager Wahyudi confirmed at a recent press conference.
According to The Bali Sun, Wahyudi said the new process would improve security, up efficiency and raise service standards, following international aviation rules and Indonesian law.
He added that the same system is already in place at Denpasar’s domestic departures terminal.
Security screening of baggage on arrival at a departure hall is a common practice, with many airports throughout Asia (like Manila airport) and Europe conducting such checks.
High season ahead

The change comes as Indonesia’s second busiest airport prepares for the holiday high season in Bali.
Last year, travel site Webjet reported that Bali flight bookings for July and August 2024 nearly doubled (95% up) air ticket sales for September and October.
“As always, tourists travelling to Bali Airport on departing flights from the island this peak vacation season are advised to leave more than enough time to travel from their accommodation to the airport,” Wahyudi told reporters in May.
From January to April 2025, Denpasar airport processed more than 7 million (7,236,686) international and domestic passengers, putting it on track to break visitor records by the end of the year, the Sun reported.
In 2024, Bali’s Ngurah Rai International Airport officially introduced automated gates in the international arrival and departure terminals, making it easier for visitors to speed through the airport.
