What happens when a 24,000-kilometre solo journey on foot, snowshoe, bike and by kayak across Canada meets a mission to travel with purpose? Canadian Filmmaker, author and public speaker Dianne Whelan is in Australia this week to share the answer.
Whelan is visiting Australia on behalf of Adventure World as an Ambassador and keynote speaker for Destination Canada’s Focus Canada events, as well as starring at an exclusive Adventure World invite-only film night for Australian Museum members.
During her time Down Under, Whelan will share insights from her extraordinary six-year journey across Canada’s 24,000-kilometre Coast to Coast to Coast, Trans Canada Trail, which is chronicled in her documentary 500 Days in the Wild, soon to be released in Australia. Currently, it’s available to watch on Air Canada flights.
Whelan’s epic 24,000-km solo trek from Newfoundland to British Columbia embodies Adventure World’s commitment to intentional, meaningful travel. Her story of resilience, deep respect for the land, and powerful connections with communities serves as an inspiration for travellers looking to explore Canada from a more authentic perspective.
“The whole journey became about connection: connection to the land, connection to the water, connection to other people, and connection to community,” said Dianne Whelan. “I hope the film invites audiences to slow down and take stock of their surroundings and their place in the world.”
Adventure World Managing Director Neil Rodgers echoed this sentiment. “Dianne’s journey perfectly aligns with our ethos of travel with purpose. She connects with the people she meets and honours the Indigenous peoples of the lands she travels on. It’s exactly the type of mindful, immersive experience we aim to create for our travellers.”

Elsa Mclean, Head of Sales at Adventure World, introduced Whelan to the 200-plus agents attending Destination Canada’s Focus Canada event at the InterContinental in Sydney on Wednesday night for a keynote speech on her phenomenal journey.
“Dianne resonates so deeply with us, and that’s why we wanted to bring her out here for this incredible week. She reminds us that the real frontier of travel is not discovering new places but discovering new perspectives,” said Mclean.
For those inspired by Dianne’s story and adventurous spirit, Adventure World offers a collection of immersive Canadian itineraries that reflect Dianne’s values of authenticity, respect, and discovery.
