Aussie show steals international limelight at Explore Canada

Network Nine’s Explore TV stole the top accolade for Broadcast TV at the Canadian Tourism Commission’s annual celebration of excellence in travel, ahead of top-rating international travel television programs.

Network Nine’s Explore TV stole the top accolade for Broadcast TV at the Canadian Tourism Commission’s annual celebration of excellence in travel, ahead of top-rating international travel television programs.

The Australian winner was announced last week at the awards ceremony of the 2014 GoMedia Canada Marketplace, held in Winnipeg, in the Canadian province of Manitoba.

“The award for best Broadcast TV was open for submissions from anywhere in the world, for all former GoMedia attendee since 2011,,” says Donna Campbell, Managing Director, Canadian Tourism Commission GSA. “Our home-grown program, Explore TV, was competing with some of the world’s most successful travel programs, and we were thrilled to accept this honour on their behalf.”

Explore TV was judged on its 2013 Canada program which showcased British Columbia, Yukon, Alberta, Ontario, Quebec and the Atlantic provinces of Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland & Labrador.

“The Explore team took its national audience on a journey as they uncover the gems that lie within each destination, from walking the ocean floor in New Brunswick and indulging at the famous Fairmont Le Chateau Frontenac in Quebec, to urban adventures in Toronto and grizzly bears in British Columbia,” says Donna.

“The result was far more than just a travel show – it was an entertaining, inspirational story which resonated with Australian viewers.”

The award for best Broadcast TV was judged independently by Florence Moureaux, director of National & International Events, Telefilm Canada, and Christiane Germain, co-president of Groupe Germain & Le Germain Hotels.

“In addition, two Australian travel writers were nominated as finalists in the Print Media section of the GoMedia Awards, Liz Ginis and Daniel Scott, for their feature articles which appeared in major Australian media outlets,” says Donna.

CTC’s largest media show continues to adapt to the changing content-publishing landscape, offering fresh education and inspiration alike to attendees. Each year, more than 130 Canadian and international bloggers, writers, editors and broadcasters from CTC’s 11 key markets gather to hear insider tips from top Canadian travel businesses.

The next GoMedia Canada Marketplace will be held in Penticton, British Columbia’s wine country, from 27 September – 1 October 2015.
