A dip in the Aussie dollar hasn’t done much to deter Australians from booking or searching for their next getaway, according to new figures.
Data released by Skyscanner revealed there was an increase of 97 percent in Australians looking to book travel over the Easter break, compared to the same period last year.
This came despite the Australian dollar reaching a US conversion rate of 0.75 during Easter this year – a fall from 0.93 during the break last year.
Skyscanner’s Oceania Head of Marketing, Alana Saphin-Polchleb said our adventurous travel spirit lives on and won’t be deterred – not even a weakened dollar.
“Australian travellers are becoming more adept at knowing how to find the best travel deals, both at home and abroad. Services like Skyscanner, a global travel search engine, are helping to simplify travel planning and booking. By sorting through global coverage of flights as well as hotel bookings and car hire options, planning overseas travel becomes a much less daunting experience.”

Among the most popular destinations searched by Australians in April 2014, four were domestic with Sydney topping the list.
This year, Sydney dropped to fourth place, while international destinations came into the forefront of searches.
The top five getaways Aussies searched for this Easter were:
5. Paris, France

Landing in fifth place, this proves that Australia’s love affair with France’s capital is everlasting and can survive anything, even January’s terrorist attacks, which saw 12 people at well-known satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo killed.
4. Sydney, Australia
The Harbour Bridge, Sydney Opera House, (almost) all the cruise ships, incredible shopping, Vivid lights and so much more.
Sydney is a local gem and Australians are as keen as ever to visit.
3. Los Angeles, United States
The City of Angels – where we can pretend to live like the rich and famous, who doesn’t want to try that?
2. Bali, Indonesia

Travellers can call for a ban on Bali as much as they want, Australians love it and they’re not giving it up!
Skyscanner research found it’s the second most searched destination for Aussies, despite ongoing social media protests. Read on
1. London, United Kingdom
VisitBritain’s boost in marketing seems to be paying off, as more Aussies search and book trips to the UK via London.
Although the tourist bureau is focused on driving Aussies to new areas or the region, London is still on the bucket list and we’re keen to tick it off.
